SEPT

2019

19.

René Bahloo of weavery.com.au will be back to facilitate an intimate weaving journey with us at Mogalakwena on Thursday, 19th September 2019.  This is your last opportunity for this year, to connect with this busy installation fibre artist, and cultural exchange practitioner on her journeys around the country, and her home in Australia.

René will share her extensive knowledge of plants and practices of traditional and contemporary basket weaving with you in this beautifully soulful meditative workshop.  It is actually so much more than a workshop, it is an experience of growth and connection, of joyful expansion, to self, others and the environment, and a journey of spirit as it unfolds through the wisdom of the weave - a truly gentle and ancient practice.

We will use plants that grow locally to create a special twisted-loop basket, which you can extend to create a carry bag, a garlic basket or a special altar piece.

Although the technique will be taught in a way that ensures knowledge to begin, continue and complete a piece, it is not guaranteed that your piece will be completed in the time allocated for the workshop. This will depend on each person in the group - size of piece, depth of conversation engaged in, and quickness of practice. René is always available online however, to answer any queries that might arise in the continuation of your piece, to the completion of it.

OCT

2019

17 - 23.

During the workshop, different aspects are considered: a meditative process of stitching, a search for slowing down, finding a personal fabric archive and individual stitches, discussions around contemporary textile artists and practices.

We embroider postcard sized textile pictures, which receive our thoughts, feelings, and impressions.  The finished works becomes a sort of journal of our experience, a personal story in thread and cloth.

The course is for anyone who enjoys working with textile in a personal way.
